The conversation with cancer begins equitably enough.

You are summing each other up, trading ripostes and bon mots before the soup. Everything seems ordinary. There is interest and boredom, and you’ve been drinking all afternoon which could mean that you’re depressed or that you’re in good form.

You get each other’s measure and the conversation settles, subjects divide and increase like cells. Gradually you realise that like the background Mozart all the emotions are involved, and that you’re no longer saying as much. Put it down to strength of intent.He’s getting aggressive and you’re getting tired. Someone says he’s a conversational bully but you’re fascinated.

He tells you things about yourself, forgotten things and those not yet found out, pieces from childhood and the unhealing wound. It’s all there. Forgetting food, you drink (too much red wine will encourage nightmares but that’s not a problem now), you marvel. Isn’t he tireless! A raconteur like something out of Proust. He blows cigar smoke into your face and make a little joke. It’s actually too much. You’re tired and the more you tire the more the words are everywhere.

You go and recline on the couch, but he won’t shut up. He follows you there and makes the cushions uncomfortable for you. It’s so unjust. Your host is in the kitchen, all the guest have gone and cancer’s got you like conviction and he’s kneeling on your chest, glaring over over you, pushing a cushion into your face, talking quietly and automatically, the words not clear.

He’s got you and he’s really pushing, pushing you to death.

Written after he was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia. Cancer eventually pushed him to his death in 1995.

I swallowed a worm. I dropped it into my mouth, let it wrap around my tongue like a vine, then flipped it down my throat and let it creep and coil in my guts like a snake in a pit.

I ate a fly. I lured it through my lips and let it crash frantically around my mouth, then crushed it against my palate with the tip of my tongue, squeezed out its tiny pellets, rolled its legs like whiskers, drowned its carcass in saliva and sent it on a swift journey to the pit with the screaming worm.

I ate a spider. I held it struggling in my fangs and then I snapped off its head with my two front teeth. I bit into its sac and tasted joyfully of its acrid cream, then ground its limbs to sugary fragments and digested the lot like some divine Turkish sweet.

I ate myself. I began with the tail.

Essentially a series of short plays and excerpts, The Colour Blind Project intends to 'challenge and break traditional casting practices by casting performers of multicultural backgrounds in roles they wouldn't necessarily be cast in within today's White-centric Arts and Entertainment industry'*.

'City Lights' Film Screening

After wrapping from Revolver film 'City Lights' by Kris Moyes early this year, the first screening has finally arrived at Dendy Cinemas.

Shooting this film, with fellow actor Brett Rogers was an unforgettable process and certainly had us out of our comfort zone, however the end result will most certainly be worth it.
